WEEK 04 - AT HARRISON

The Morrilton High School football team came up one point short in their trip to Harrison Friday night, falling to the Goblins, 35-34. The Devil Dogs took advantage of two Harrison turnovers to jump to a 21-0 first quarter lead. Morrilton got on the board six minutes into the first quarter when sophomore Jacolbly Criswell found senior Laken Dillard on a 39-yard touchdown pass. Two plays later Dillard returned a Noah Ditmanson interception 14 yards for a touchdown. Another Dillard interception on Harrison's ensuing possession was followed by the Dixon Family Dental Big Smile Play of the Game, a 61-yard touchdown run by sophomore Xaviar Clemons. Harrison scored the game's next two touchdowns to cut the lead to 21-14, but the Devil Dogs were able to get on the board again just before halftime when Jacolby Criswell found older brother Tory Criswell in the corner of the endzone from 34 yards out. The extra point was blocked and Morrilton led, 27-14, at the break. The Goblins scored on their first two possessions of the second half to take their first lead, 28-27, with 7:18 remaining in the third quarter. Jacolby Criswell had a two-yard touchdown run on the final play of the third quarter and Morrilton led, 34-28, after the Jesus Arias extra point. The Goblins answered with 6:20 remaining to reclaim their one-point lead, 35-34, and that would prove to be the final score. The Devil Dogs would have three more possessions, but a punt and two turnovers on downs ended Morrilton's chances. Jacolby Criswell earned Colton's Offensive Player of the Game honors by passing for 202 yards, rushing for 56 yards and accounting for three touchdowns. Clemons rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown. Dillard was the leading receiver with six catches for 92 yards and a touchdown and took home Colton's Defensive Player of the Game honors for his two interceptions to go along with five tackles. Senior Blake Poteete was the team's leading tackler with 15 stops. Junior Jake Knowles had eight tackles and senior Simeon Lee and junior Andrew Lentz each had seven tackles for the Devil Dogs. The loss drops Morrilton to 2-2 overall, 0-1 in the 5A West. The Devil Dogs return home this week to face Greenbrier. The Panthers lost to Maumelle, 21-18, on Friday.
