MORRILTON GIRLS AND BOYS BASKETBALL PUNCH THEIR TICKET TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT
Morrilton senior boys' basketball team outscored Shiloh Christian, 26-9, in the second quarter to pull away from the Saints for a 71-50 victory in the first round of the Class 4A North Region Tournament in Ozark on Wednesday. After trailing 9-0 early, the Devil Dogs took the lead with a 24-11 run capped by the Dixon Family Dental Big Smile Play of the Game, a three-pointer in transition from senior Brock Hendrix. The Devil Dogs closed the first half on a 19-6 run and then held the Saints without a field goal in the third quarter to roll to their 16th win of the season and clinch a berth in next week's Class 4A State Tournament in Morrilton. Junior Joseph Pinion led the Devil Dogs with 22 points and six rebounds. Hendrix finished with 12 points and senior Darrius Allison had ten. The Devil Dogs advance to the semi-finals where they'll face the winner of Thursday's Berryville/Ozark matchup on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in a game we'll broadcast live on KVOM...
Morrilton girls have also qualified for the state tournament and advanced to the semi-finals of the regional tournament. The Lady Devil Dogs beat Berryville, 58-33, on Wednesday. Junior Grace Brown scored ten of her game-high 16 points in the second quarter, including two on the Dixon Family Dental Big Smile Play of the Game just before the half ended that gave Morrilton a 12-point halftime advantage. The lead was never threatened in the second half. Sophomore Cheyanne Kemp had 15 points for Morrilton. Senior Kennedy Reel finished with 13 points and seven rebounds in the Lady Devil Dogs' 16th consecutive win. Morrilton will face the winner of Thursday's Farmington/Pottsville matchup in the semi-finals on Friday at 4:00 p.m., and we'll have the broadcast of that game live on KVOM...
