DEVIL DOGS MOVE TO 2-0

SPORTS: Dogs beat Clarksville!! After enduring a 44-minute lightning delay in the first quarter, the Morrilton High School football team rolled to a 30-14 win over Clarksville on Friday night in Clarksville. The Devil Dogs scored touchdowns in the first half on a one-yard run by junior Destin Tate, a 14-yard keeper by senior quarterback Damarius Martin and a 30-yard pass from Martin to senior Terrell Garlington and led 21-7 at halftime. The Devil Dog defense stood tall on a goal line stand in the final minute of the first half to ensure the lead would remain at 14 points. The fourth down stop led by senior Chad Curtis was recognized as the Dixon Family Dental Big Smile Play of the Game... Curtis finished with nine tackles, including a sack, and was named the Conway County Farm Bureau Insurance Player You Can Depend On. Junior Hays Buckley had eight tackles and was named the Colton's Defensive Player of the Game. Senior Jackson Dixon had seven tackles and senior Cord Arndt recovered a fumble for the Devil Dogs... Martin was named the Colton's Offensive Player of the Game after rushing for 82 yards and two touchdowns and throwing for another score. Tate rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown... With the win, the Devil Dogs claimed their second traveling trophy of the young season, taking home the Battle of the Beast trophy sponsored by Moore and Company Realtors after getting the Battle of I-40 trophy in the season-opening win over Russellville. The Devil Dogs are 2-0 on the season and play their first-ever 5A Central Conference game this Friday at Vilonia. The Eagles were grounded by Greenbrier, 19-14, this past Friday...
